Norberta Auccacusi Huaman

Norberta is the leader of her family's artisan collective in Chinchero, Cusco. She inherited her mother, Santusa's home and transformed it into a weaving school and residence named Q'aytu, which means wool.
Norberta told us a story that when she finished her first textile as a little girl, she took it to the river and offered it to the water. Through this ritual, her very first textile travels with the current for eternity. Just as the knowledge of weaving within herself. It never runs out.
English Translation
"My mother and grandmothers were weavers. From them, I learned their techniques. I was 8 years old when they taught me. And now, I transfer that same knowledge to the people who come to my home with a desire to learn to weave and participate in cultural exchange. Everything that we make is made by hand and naturally dyed." - Norberta
Original in Spanish
"My madre y mi abuelita fueron tejedoras. De ellas, aprendí mis técnicas. Yo tenía 8 años cuando ellas me enseñaron, y eso lo transmito a esas personas quienes quieren aprender a tejer e intercambiar las culturas. Todas las cosas que tenemos son tejidos a mano, con tintes naturales." - Norberta
